One of the greatest quotes of the 20th century was by Franklin
Delano Roosevelt when he stated “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 is a
date that will live in infamy” as he announced the attack on Pearl
Harbor where 2,335 people died. On September 11, 2001 where
2,977 people died George Bush said “Today, our nation saw evil --
the very worst of human nature -- and we responded with the best of
America.”
As of today, almost 30,000 people have died in the US and we
again are facing fear and uncertainty. But this time we are not at
war with other countries –we are at war with a virus. This time we
will not fight with guns and the loss of human life in the name of
freedom. No, this time we fight by following the basic rules of
hygiene and common sense. Stay home – stay away from infected
people – wash your hands with soap - don’t touch your face – keep
your fingers out of your mouth – and, for at least a while, follow
the rules.
We will win this war on the virus – but what will the
collateral damage to the global and local economy be? How long will
it take to recovery financially – will it be months or decades?
Some of us will never recover and some with thrive. As
history has shown, in every crisis some industries have explosive
growth.
More that 17 million people in the US have filed for
unemployment as of last Friday – meaning many more than that have
lost their jobs. Some of those jobs will return quickly, and
some will never return. What can we do now to help us survive
as the world has changed forever? We need to look at what and
who are working now? What do the people around us need and
are willing to pay for? Now more than ever, many of us need side
hustles to survive this economic downturn. This week we will go
over some downturn proof side hustle ideas.
